Sparkling snowflakes
Find their way down
’Tween trunks of old giants
Wafted by bitter breeze
With reluctance they start
to settle down
Glistening,
like tiny white downs

Slowly concealing the path
’tween the deep-furrowed trunks
Snakelike meandering
The path wind its way
through and beyond the woods
Over the frozen brook and into the moor

Towards the blue peak
Circled by buzzards
’Tis where heaven meets earth

Yet through and through
The earth hibernates
Sunken in torpor
It lies lifeless and fallow
Numbed and silent
